Mercedes AMG Petronas is lord in the Formula 1. In 2014 the team won both the constructors and the drivers title, and managed to maintain this performance the year after. The absolute superstar of the team is Lewis Hamilton, who was transferred from McLaren in 2013. Mercedes AMG Petronas is popular both on and off the racetrack. Their Facebook page counts over ten million likes.
In order to strengthen their online position, Tauros Media was given the assignment to create a webshop in 2015. Because of its scalable characteristics we decided with Magento as an e-commerce platform. There were also a lot of plugins available that met AMP Petronas’ requirements. We used the One Step Checkout module so the customers can pay on one page. We also implemented the special promotions extension so the promotions can easily be managed.
The connection with Mailchimp makes sure that subscriptions for the newsletter are automatically sent to the e-mail marketing package. This saves AMG Petronas extra work and reduces the chance at mistakes.
The biggest challenge was the integration with the ERP system Navision and Docdata, the payment service provider of the webshop. As soon as an order has been paid for, it is directly sent to Navision, after which the warehouse further handles the order. Aside from the technique we also take care of hosting and support for the webshop. The e-commerce platform became the starting point for merchandise for everyone who wants to support AMG Petronas. For Tauros Media this project meant a fantastic entrance to the Formula 1, because nowadays we are responsible for the e-commerce of many race teams in the competition.
