Facebook attracts at least 50 million new members a month and it has become impossible to imagine our life without it.

It is the place to build a network of friends and share personal information like photos and videos. But besides a social function, Facebook can also play a significant role in business. Think about sending vouchers to members of your Facebook group, that can then be redeemed on your website or in your online store. However, you can also encourage members of your Facebook group to recruit new members in exchange for an additional discount or another remuneration. This allows a so-called viral marketing effect to be achieved.

Another option to generate revenue using Facebook is through a Facebook application. We developed the game Fish Friends, a commission by Playdom. In the game, visitors can maintain a piece of sea with fish, and use real money to buy extra credits to, for example, purchase new fish. Facebook friends who look at one of the fish, can be informed about the game. The goal is to attract more participants and use them to generate more sales. With more than one million active users, Fish Friends was a widely used Facebook tool in mid-2010.

Tauros Media developed the Facebook application MessageWatcher with an entirely different function in mind. To check if the codes of conduct of a particular company are properly followed, all the employees' expressions on Facebook can be tracked in real time. These are subsequently sent to the manager using automated e-mail archiving. This way it can be quickly discovered when an employee writes posts that can possibly damage the company.
